Hurricane Idol 2016 Contest Rules
DATE:  The 2016 Hurricane Idol contest will be held Wednesday March 16 and Friday, March 18 in the HHS Auditorium.  All Hurricane Valley residents (includes Hurricane City, Springdale, Rockville, Virgin Toquerville, LaVerkin and Hilldale) are welcome to enter.  An entrance fee of $10.00 will be required.  Entry forms must be turned in to the HHS, HMS, or HIS offices by February 25.  Entry forms can also be filled out at huricaneidolblog.blogspot.com.  No late entries will be accepted.
MUSIC:  NEW THIS YEAR!!! Do you have a mild case of stage fright?  We will be allowing up to 2 backup singers.  Judging will be based solely on contestant.  Backup singers will not be judged.  You will need to send a message to the Facebook page detailing song choices and if you are accompanying yourself, acoustic instrument you are playing.  All other music tracks should be attached in a message to the Hurricane Idol Facebook page.  Search Hurricane Idol.  Be sure to like us!  Please include the following:  performers name, grade, song title, artist, and any other pertinent information.  Music must be turned in by Feb. 25.  We ask that you send in 2 songs, one labeled “Preliminary night”, the other labeled “Final Night”.  All contestants will have 90 seconds to perform the first night and 2 minutes the second night.  Music can have background vocals only.  Absolutely no lip-syncing.  No vocal-eliminated music permitted.   I-tunes and Amazon have a karaoke section with songs available to download.  Please no suggestive or crude lyrics.  All music should be family friendly!
Dress Code and Props:  Please adhere to Washington County School District dress code.  You will be allowed one prop on stage with you. 

Format:  Each contestant will perform one number the first night of competition.  Your performance will be judged by a panel of qualified judges on vocal talent and presentation.  The top three contestants in each category will be invited back for the final competition.    In addition, one other contestant from each category will be invited to compete the final night based on donations made in the contestants name to Grad Night 2016.  This finalist will be contacted Thursday afternoon by phone and posted on the Facebook page.   There will be two awards given the final night of competition, a “Judge’s Choice” based on judge’s scores, and a “People’s Choice” based on audience vote.

  3. Can the contestants have a portable mic so they can act and move around or are they limited to a mic on a stand for singing?
